An associate principal at B.Y. Ateres Miriam High School would be responsible for a variety of tasks, in collaboration with Mrs. Sokoloff, principal.
Below is a list of potential responsibilities:
1. Academic Oversight
a. Assist in curriculum development and assure that it aligns with educational standard and Bais Yaakov values.
b. Aid in staff evaluation; offer guidance for professional development.
c. Ensure proper scheduling for exams/ assessments/ Regents.
d. Aid in monitoring individual student progress and interview when necessary, as liaison to P3 providers.
2. Student Discipline and Welfare
a. Participate in weekly meetings with principal and staff social worker to address emotional, social, and psychological needs of students
b. Collaborate with principal in regard to A.S.P. (Adherence to School Policy) grades
c. Aid in enforcing school’s code of conduct and address disciplinary issues and prompt positive student behaviors.
d. Serve as a mentor for students; fostering a supportive and respectful school environment, generate positivity for student role as a בת ישראל.
3. Communication with Parents, and School Board
a. Act as liaison between school and parents, as necessary.
b. Help organize grade 9 orientation night for parents; and parent teacher conference night.
c. Communicate with parents regarding concerns or issues related to student behavior, academics, and attendance.
d. Coordinate, if necessary, with the school board on updates/ events withinthe school.
4. Faculty Support/ Professional Development
a. Coordinate professional development events for staff
b. Aid in facilitating faculty meetings to ensure alignment of school strategies and goals
c. Provide support to new teachers.
5. Event Programming
a. Organize specific events: Opening student orientation and faculty meeting, parent orientation for grade 9, select activities in grade 12 (ex: sweatshirts, graduation trip, graduation), general oversight on school production and other events.
b. Aid in planning of select extra-curricular activities, oversee mechanchos.
6. Administration and A.S.P. Implementation
a. Assist in planning and management of: daily schedule, substitute teachers, school calendar, holiday/ vacation days.
b. Help implement and maintain health and safety protocols, ensuring a secure environment for students and staff.
c. Enforce ASP policy on attendance, lateness, dress code.
7. Support for Principal
a. Act as principal’s “deputy”, helping with administrative tasks (interviewing incoming students etc.)
b. Support the vision of the school, helping to guide its growth.
c. Collaborate on strategic planning, budget, and long-term goals for the school
8. Serve as Role Model
a. Help foster a learning environment that integrates Torah values into everyday life and study.
b. Assist in Shachris, Mincha, Tehilim, suggest guest speakers who inspire.
c. Serve as a role model in Middos, adherence to Tznius and aid in implementing the important elements of a Bais Yaakov education throughout grades 9-12.
