Position Overview:
The Assistant Principal plays a critical leadership role in fostering a positive, academically rigorous, and student-centered school environment, as part of a critical partnership with the Principal. This individual is responsible for overseeing student discipline, managing the course placement and selection process, supporting faculty development through observations and feedback, and serving as a key thought partner to the Principal. The Assistant Principal will be a proactive, visible presence in the Upper School and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and families to promote and uphold the school’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support & Engagement:
Act as a resource for students, providing mentorship, conflict resolution, and academic guidance as needed. Support initiatives that foster student leadership and well-being.
Implement, and oversee the school’s discipline system, ensuring consistency, fairness, and alignment with school policies and values.
Work closely with the Principal, Dean of Students, and other stakeholders (students, parents, teachers, and support staff) to promote a positive school culture.
Faculty Support & Development:
Conduct teacher observations, in coordination with the principal, provide meaningful feedback.
Share data from observations and conversations with the Principal.
Support professional development initiatives to enhance instructional effectiveness and student engagement.
Course Placement & Selection:
Lead the course selection and placement process.
Work in close collaboration with college guidance counselors and department chairs to advise students and help ensure appropriate academic pathways and alignment with student aspirations.
Strategic Leadership:
Serve as a thought partner, sounding board, and advisor to the Principal. Contributing to strategic decision-making, school-wide initiatives, and policy development.
Assist in shaping the school’s academic programming.
Proactively seek to support the Principal and the program, assume any temporary duties and responsibilities as delegated by the Principal, and manage other projects and initiatives as determined by the Principal.
Parent & Community Engagement: Maintain strong communication and relationships with parents and the broader school community, ensuring transparency and collaboration in student support efforts.
Operational & Administrative Support: Assist in the daily operations of the school, including scheduling, safety procedures, staff supervision, and other administrative duties as needed.
Other Duties as Assigned: Support school-wide events, initiatives, and other responsibilities that contribute to the success of the institution.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required.
Minimum of 3-5 years of teaching and/or administrative experience in an educational setting.
Demonstrated expertise in student discipline, academic counseling, and faculty development.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, faculty, and staff.
Knowledge of best practices in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and student support services.
Work Environment & Expectations:
The Assistant Principal is expected to be a visible and engaged presence in the school community. This role requires flexibility, initiative, and a commitment to continuous improvement. The position may involve occasional evening and weekend commitments for school events and meetings.
Salary & Benefits:
Salary would be commensurate with level of experience. Approximate salary range is $95,000-$115,000.
