Role Overview
The Rosh Mesivta Head of School is the institution’s chief educational, spiritual, and executive leader, responsible for the Torah mission, academic excellence, faculty culture, student experience, finances and operations, and the school’s standing in the community. The role reports to the Board of Trustees and leads the Senior Leadership Team.
Core Responsibilities
Spiritual & Educational Leadership
- Can articulate and embody the hashkafa and educational vision that is consistent with the school mission and nurtures excellence in Torah observance, limudei kodesh, general studies and Ahavat Yisrael.
- Advance a robust curriculum with dynamic instructional quality, objective assessment practices focused on multi-dimensional student growth.
- Maintain high standards of academic rigor and Torah values across divisions.
- Serve as a visible Torah role model through teaching, Divrei Torah, and leadership.
Faculty & Leadership Development
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate faculty and academic leaders.
- Lead a growth-minded culture of professional learning and collaboration.
- Nurture high expectations, accountability and engagement amongst both the faculty and student body.
Student & Family Experience
- Ensure that every student is known, supported, and appropriately challenged.
- Oversee guidance, discipline, co-curricular programming, and student life.
- Partner with parents with warmth, clarity, and consistency.
- Promote a culture of Derech Eretz, Kavod haTorah, and student well-being.
Strategy, Finance, and Operations
- Lead strategic planning and annual goal-setting for the school.
- Oversee budgeting, staffing, and operational priorities.
- Work closely with the business office and board finance committee to ensure sound financial management.
- Partner with staff and lay leadership to support enrollment growth and retention.
Advancement & External Relations
- Represent the school in the community and serve as a primary ambassador of its mission.
- Build and maintain relationships with donors, alumni, partner shuls, and communal institutions.
- Support and promote fundraising strategies alongside board members and lay leaders.
Board Partnership & Governance
- Maintain a healthy partnership with the Board that is grounded in clarity and trust.
- Support the board on strategy and long-term planning while keeping operations within administrative leadership.
Professional Qualifications
- A track record demonstrating a commitment to Torah life and Jewish education.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and educational pedagogy.
- Advanced degree in areas of education and Torah learning.
- Experience leading teams and managing organizational systems.
- Strong communication, organizational and relationship-building skills.

About Mesivta
The Mesivta High School of Greater Philadelphia is an Orthodox high school for boys, educating students in grades 9 through 12 in Limudei Kodesh and secular disciplines. The Mesivta is based on a dual curriculum model, consisting of a college preparatory General Studies curriculum and a comprehensive Judaic Studies curriculum. Courses are kept small to allow for student-centered instruction and tailored curriculum to meet the goals and aspirations of each student. The Mesivta strives to instill in their students the values, inspiration, and education that will prepare them to be the next generation of leaders in Torah and professional environments.
