Position Summary
South Bend Hebrew Day School seeks an Assistant Principal who will strengthen limudei kodesh instruction through consistent teacher supervision and follow-through, while also supporting student discipline processes within defined grade boundaries and helping ensure smooth daily execution. The Assistant Principal is a key partner to the Head of School, ensuring that students, staff, and daily systems receive timely support and consistent follow-through. This role reports directly to the Head of School and carries real authority.
Primary Responsibility: Kodesh Teacher Supervision
Conduct regular observations and walkthroughs
- Provide clear, actionable feedback and coaching
- Ensure follow-through on expectations (planning, instruction, classroom management)
- Initiate documentation and write-ups when necessary, in coordination with the Head of School
- Works with l staff to review curriculum evaluations and implement appropriate updates and improvements.
Student Support: Individual Student Plans
- Help implement and monitor individual student plans (academic and/or behavioral supports)
- Coordinate teacher follow-through and consistency
- Participate in parent meetings related to plan implementation when needed
Student Discipline Support
- Support administration with student discipline processes for K–4 boys and girls, and grades 5–8 boys
- Handle parent communication and meetings when assigned by the Head of School or when appropriate for the case
Daily Operations Support
- Assist with coverage and supervision systems so the day runs smoothly
- Step in to troubleshoot real-time breakdowns (coverage gaps, transitions, supervision)
Qualifications
- Prior experience in education, preferably with leadership responsibility
- Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive situations
- Ability to collaborate with teachers while maintaining clear expectations
- Excellent communication skills with parents and staff
